Mission The New Shakespeare Center at the University of California, Irvine aims to share the drama of Shakespeare and his contemporaries with the campus and community. An interschool initiative between the School of Humanities and the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, New Swan Shakespeare presents lectures, reading groups, workshops, symposia, mock trials, and performances, all designed to educate and delight enthusiasts of the Bard from all walks of life, including students, staff, teachers, scholars, lifelong learners, and families. UCI is the only campus in the UC system that is home to an annual summer Shakespeare festival supported by a varied menu of academic programming. Many prominent scholars and artists contribute to Shakespearean research, teaching, and performance at UCI. Our distinctive programming advances scholarship, promotes group learning, and encourages engagement with the First Folio and other library holdings.
