Mission
Student Healthcare In Practice (SHIP) is a UCI undergraduate organization that primarily staffs and oversees free health clinics in Orange, CA. We strive to not only bring awareness to the socioeconomic disparities in healthcare but also to directly make a difference in the healthcare industry by serving underserved communities and providing quality healthcare for free. Together, our SHIPmates strive to show that healthcare is a right, not a privilege.
Membership Benefits
We create an environment for our volunteers to grow both professionally and personally. Our volunteers at the clinic are able to receive hands-on experience by shadowing doctors, assisting with front and back office tasks, managing reception and also are able to connect to a community of like-minded pre-health/dental students. Within the same community, we also have dental clinic volunteers who are provided with the opportunity to act as the dental assistant and chair side assistant. Members will also become familiar with components of clinic operation, such as clinic flow, electronic medical records (EMR), HIPAA, etc.
