Fraternities
The Fraternity is designed to advance ideals of liberty and equal justice under law; to inspire the virtues of compassion and courage; to foster integrity and professional competence; to promote the welfare of its members; and to encourage their moral, intellectual, and cultural advancement; so that each member may enjoy a lifetime of honorable professional and public service.
We hold our members to a high caliber of professional competence and fraternal fellowship while promoting public service. We differentiate ourselves by the rigor of our Leadership Program and the selectivity of our members, which allows its members to develop into prominent leaders on and off campus. Additionally, we maintain a unique national network of Kappa Alpha Pi chapters, including: The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; The University of California, Los Angeles; The University of California, Riverside; Cornell University, among others.
Social Justice
We are committed to improving the quality of legal access and advocacy in the Bay Area. By partnering with organizations such as the East Bay Community Law Center and hosting a biannual Free Legal Clinic, our members make impactful strides toward equality for underserved populations. Our philanthropic history also includes working with the Bay Area Urban Debate League and other similar causes.
Leadership Development
Our rigorous Leadership Development Program fosters public speaking, strategic planning and organizational skills in a positive environment. Throughout eight weeks, you will bond with a class of strong campus leaders and expand your personal horizons through a broadened sense of professionalism and the legal field. Various projects such as a legal panel, mock trial, and J.D. shadow increase exposure to the law and profession. Growth continues even after the formal program ends.
Law School Preparation
We strive to have continuous opportunities to prepare our members from law school, beginning with the big question: is law school really for you? Following the Leadership Development Program, we offer at minimum three events and workshops for members every semester to further prepare them for law school. These events include round-table discussions with Deans of top law schools, workshops on the law school admissions process, and provide other useful resources to our members.
Professional Network
We are committed to maintaining strong bonds with every professional we work with. These esteemed individuals include top consultants, private and public attorneys, and top law school deans. By maintaining relationships with firms, companies, public entities, non-profit organizations and more, we ensure continuous and unique opportunities for our members.
Alumni Network
The Kappa Alpha Pi alumni network runs deep. Our members have attended the nation’s top law schools and currently hold high-level positions both in government and the private sector. With such a diverse membership, we also have members in top business and graduate school programs. Each new member has the opportunity to connect with and learn from an alumni mentor working in their particular field of interest.
Academic Support
Our academic support resources include peer reviews of courses across a wide array of majors. We offer group study hours on a weekly basis and test banks for our active members. We also maintain strong relationships with elite test prep companies such as TestMasters and Blueprint. Membership will receive additional advantages, which include discounted prep courses.
Fraternalism
Our members forge bonds that transcend professional networks; we are family. Various events throughout the semester, from casual hangouts to weekend-long retreats, provide ample opportunity to relax and make the most of your time at Cal.
