Alpha Tau Omega
Fraternities
Established in 1865, Alpha Tau Omega was the first fraternity created after the Civil War. ATO was founded at the Virginia Military Institute by three cadets who sought to create a brotherhood based on eternal and immutable principles to unite men and heal the divisions caused by the war.

ATO continues to reinforce these principles today, as embodied in the fraternity's creed:

"To bind men together in a brotherhood based upon eternal and immutable principles, with a bond as strong as right itself and as lasting as humanity; to know no North, no South, no East, no West, but to know man as man, to teach that true men the world over should stand together and contend for supremacy of good over evil; to teach, not politics, but morals; to foster, not partisanship, but the recognition of true merit wherever found; to have no narrower limits within which to work together for the elevation of man than the outlines of the world: these were the thoughts and hopes uppermost in the minds of the founders of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity."

The Gamma Iota Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega at UC Berkeley has received several awards ranging from academic to athletic successes. We provide an excellent way to delve into a rich life at Berkeley with socials with sororities, brotherhood retreats, philanthropy events, club nights, sporting nights, and a whole lot more. We have consistently successful intramural teams in basketball, football, soccer, softball, and volleyball.

We live in the largest fraternity house on campus, which has been recently renovated and is well taken care of. Our brothers are diverse in their backgrounds and their studies - we are open to all who are charismatic and outgoing.

Our alumni range in successes from former US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, the Vice President of Fox Sports, a major Hollywood talent agent, a world class anesthesiologist, a senior partner at Goldman Sachs (who was named by Haas as the Business Leader of the Year for 2014), and a former California superior court judge.

One of ATO's most notable contributions to Cal is the original Oski. Oski was a bear cub who lived in the ATO house in 1923 until he grew too large and was moved to the Oakland Zoo.
