Mission
1. The purpose of Raíces de mi Tierra is to promote and
cultivate at UCSB the study and performance of traditional
Mexican dance forms from various regions. Our fixed goal is
for members and participants in the organization to prepare
diverse sets of dances to be performed at various annual
events, both on and off campus. The organization, as a
whole, will provide the UCSB campus as well as the
surrounding community with an accessible dance group
trained in traditional and contemporary Mexican dance,
expressing the cultural roots of Mexican dances, positive
ideas, and values, serving as a vehicle for both
entertainment and education.
2. As a way of establishing our purpose, Semillas de mi
Tierra, is a mentorship program that provides children from
the Goleta and Santa Barbara area with an opportunity to
learn cultural traditions of Mexico, along with providing
them with positive role models by interacting with college
students.
Membership Benefits
Every member will have the chance to dig deeper into cultural roots through dance. We offer to teach dance while still forming bonds that will last a lifetime.
