Experts broadly expect significant progress in AI during our lifetimes, potentially to the point of achieving human-level intelligence. Worryingly, technological advancement for AI systems has outpaced our ability to explain their behavior, instill our values in their objectives, and to build robust safeguards against their failures. In response to these challenges, we founded the AISI, an academic community working to ensure AI is developed to the benefit of humanity's future. The purpose of AISI is to: Educate students on the risks posed by advanced AI to our future. Empower students to work on solutions for the alignment and governance of advanced AI. Promote the field of AI Safety within the Georgia Tech academic and professional community.
