The purpose of the organization is to create a platform through which Georgia Tech students of all majors and ages can compete in the US Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon competition on an annual basis. The Solar Decathlon competition challenges student teams to design and build energy-efficient, solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and aesthetically pleasing. Each year, they host a design challenge in which a team creates a design for a hypothetical construction project of their choosing from the available categories (residential, commercial, office, etc.). Every other year, they host a build challenge in which a team makes a 2-year commitment to design and build a sustainable home. The competition inherently emphasizes interdisciplinary teams from Schools all across our Institute, and radical collaboration leads to successful projects.
