The Asian American Journalists Association at the University of Texas at Austin aims to advance diversity in newsrooms and ensure fair and accurate coverage of communities of color by providing a community for journalists of color at UT and support for AAPI student journalists and students from all backgrounds.
In building a community, our student organization holds several types of events, including but not limited to: general meetings, where we introduce topics and meet members, guest speaker events, where we invite outside speakers to come talk to our organization, workshops, where we both teach and work together with our members on journalism and other topics, and socials, where we build community through friendship and fun events.
AAJA at UT is also focused on ensuring fair coverage of communities of color, which occurs during discussions of recent events at all of our meetings and through the input toward the coverage of AAPI communities at local news outlets, including but not limited to the Daily Texan and its Diversity and Inclusion Board.
