Political & Advocacy
The purpose of Change1 is to increase awareness of the hardships foster youth face, help foster youth transition successfully from foster care into society, and grant a voice to youth in Austin who’ve experienced foster care. We work with the national organization. Our activities include but are not limited to:
1. Case management for Change1 beneficiaries. This involves directly working with our beneficiaries to help meet their needs, from accessing emergency medicine or affordable legal counsel to growing their local community and finding support. 2. Public relations to spread awareness about Change1 and the struggles foster youth face. This may include social media campaigns, working with other nonprofits or UT Austin clubs, or graphic design. 3. Events and logistics for Change1's events, such as our annual Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Drives, and various volunteer events 4. Fundraising and donations to raise money and resources for Change 1 beneficiaries.
General meetings will be held every other week on Mondays from 6:00 - 7:00 PM at MBB 2.456 starting September 16, 2024. Individual team meetings will be determined by the officers leading the team.
No prior experience is needed and we appreciate any skills you can bring! Much of what the Change1 UT Austin Chapter does is running the day-to-day operations of the national organization, which is fantastic for those looking for meaningful leadership or volunteering opportunities. We also love creative minds and are very open-minded to any ideas you may have to assist in the organization's growth.
