We, Effective Altruism at UT Austin, aim to do just that! Through discussions, fellowships, 1-on-1's, social events, and career planning, we’ll help you use your time, money and career to solve the world’s most pressing problems and make some friends along the way! Our intro to EA fellowship program gathers small cohorts of undergrads and grads to learn about and discuss the Effective Altruism movement's key ideas behind how to do good better, alongside social events and weekly socials! To engage with our community: 1. Sign up for our mailing list on our website2. Join our Slack and say Hi!3. Come to one of our Wednesday night meetings! We meet at BRB 1.120 every Wednesday at 7pm! What is Effective Altruism? Most of us want to make a difference. We see suffering, injustice, and death, and are moved to do something about them. But working out what that ‘something’ is, let alone actually doing it, can be a difficult and disheartening challenge. Effective Altruism is a response to this challenge. It is a research field that uses high-quality evidence and careful reasoning to work out how to help others as much as possible. It is also a growing community of people taking these answers seriously, by focusing their efforts on the most promising solutions to the world's most pressing problems. To learn more about EA, read this article, watch this TED talk, and see here for more resources.
