Frontera at Berkeley
Political & Advocacy
Frontera at Berkeley is composed of people with a strong interest in the U.S.A.- Mexico border region, border policy as well as the migrant experience and immigration policy. In recent times, immigration and border policy have become key agenda items at federal, regional, and local elections. With that in mind, as an organization, we strive to raise awareness among the Berkeley population about migrant issues, border policy, and the border region. Given the transnational bond between the two sides of the border, many of the residents of the regions develop a “fronterice” identity, with strong cultural connections to both sides of the border, as an organization, our mission is to give a voice to members of that region in a place like Berkeley, where policy discussion is influential at a national level. We also aim to foster an open discussion about current issues like discrimination, the migrant crisis, and the economic potential of the region. We seek to incentivize our members to find venues of engagement and become active participants in these discussions at a national level.
