Nritya Sangam Indian Dance Troupe is a not-for-profit organization at The University of Texas committed to serving its community through its passion for Indian classical dance and its philanthropic spirit. NS was founded in 2002 by two students who shared a love for dance. The phrase "Nritya Sangam" means "unity of dance," which is exemplary of the type of students selected to join Nritya Sangam; our members represent a diverse array of schools and styles of Indian dance. In addition, each member is an experienced dancer, carrying years of extensive training under the instruction of their respective teachers. We dance to keep up with an art form and talent we have spent so many years cultivating, and to preserve our age-old culture and traditions. The ancient Indian dance styles that we primarily derive inspiration from are Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. We hope to expose the mainstream community to the richness and depth of an art little-known in America through performances on the UT campus, as well as around Austin and other parts of the state and nation. The members of Nritya Sangam serve as ambassadors of traditional Indian fine arts on-campus, as the troupe is the only competitive Indian classical dance group at the university.
