International & Multicultural
Our mission is to give back to the queer community through service, social engagement, and education on LGBTQ+ issues in a protected space. We will do so by hosting volunteering opportunities, general meetings with speakers who seek to change the landscape, and various official and unofficial social opportunities -- even in the summertime.
GENERAL MEETINGS
Our meetings will occur once a month in person, but we will provide a hybrid option for anyone to attend virtually. Our GMs are a pathway for interested members to engage, network, and meet with leaders in the LGBTQ+ world! We'll provide snacks & updates regarding the organization before facilitating group conversations with our speaker. Past speakers have included Dr. Alison Kafer -- who introduced us to Queer Disability Theory -- and Dr. Melissa Heide -- who illustrated how queerness has evolved in academia.
VOLUNTEERING
As a service organization, we seek to provide a safe space for our members to serve local communities, acquire volunteering experience, and bond with their fellow members. We will create 8-10 volunteering opportunities per semester for everyone to have a wide variety of services to choose from, depending on their interests. Past volunteering events have included: hosting a care kit drive with Caritas, growing vegetable gardens at elementary schools with the Green Corn Project, and transcribing historical documents with the Smithsonian!
SOCIALS
To build camaraderie & friendships among our membership, we will be hosting social events throughout the school year! We will host 8-10 official social events for our members per semester, but we have a channel in our group chat (Discord) where we promote -- and highly encourage -- our members' unofficial meetups! Official meetups have included: an outing at the Blanton Museum, a picnic at the Turtle Pond, and a series of virtual GAYme nights! Unofficial meetups have included: Rupaul's Drag Race watch parties, dinner outings, and study groups!
