Our mission is to be present with people who are at the end of life and would otherwise be alone. We work together as a team of volunteers to provide companionship to patients at Bellevue who are dying and do not have loved ones present. Our goal is to educate and inform future healthcare providers about palliative and end-of-life care by creating a volunteering space and hosting various events. Referrals are sent to us like a sub-palliative service, and trained volunteers sign up for 1-2 hour-long shifts to spend time with referred patients in a non-medical capacity. Volunteers are encouraged to talk, listen to music, read poetry, sit quietly, etc. to share intentional presence with patients.
