Health
The Street Health Outreach and Wellness Program will be dedicated to addressing the overlooked health needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, particularly focusing on foot health. Recognizing the critical role that foot care plays in overall well-being, our program provides foot soaks and basic care to vulnerable populations at Bellevue Hospital’s Primary Care Safety Net Clinic. Through compassionate service, we aim to not only alleviate physical discomfort but also foster trust and connection between patients and caregivers. Our mission is twofold: to improve the health outcomes of those facing the harsh realities of homelessness, and to provide medical students with invaluable experience in serving marginalized communities in a non-medical setting. By engaging in direct, empathetic care, students gain deeper insights into the complex challenges our patients face, from chronic illnesses to the psychological toll of living on the streets. This hands-on involvement helps cultivate essential skills in trauma-informed care and clinical empathy. We will be committed to bridging the gap in healthcare for our city’s most vulnerable residents while enriching the education of future healthcare professionals. Through our foot soak program, we aim to offer a moment of relief and dignity to our patients, alongside an opportunity for students to learn and grow as compassionate, culturally sensitive clinicians.
