The goal of the Social Justice Art Project is to empower NYU students to create art that addresses political and/or social issues as a form of activism. SJA was founded based on the notion that mainstream forms of verbal advocacy such as protesting are not exhaustively accessible due to barriers including but not limited to cultural/familial stigma, physical disability, general shyness, and language discordance. Thus, our hope is to create safe spaces for NYU students of all backgrounds to exploit the creative powers of the arts and fight for their causes.
