International & Multicultural
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is a historically Black Greek-letter organization founded January 16th, 1920, by five ladies at Howard University in Washington, DC. These five women, also known as our Five Pearls, dared to depart from the traditional coalitions for black women and sought to establish a new organization predicated on the precepts of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love and Finer Womanhood. Although membership is granted exclusively by invitation; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority upholds its motto of being a “community conscious, action oriented organization.”

It was the ideal of the Founders; Arizona Cleaver, Myrtle Tyler, Viola Tyler, Pearl Neal and Fannie Pettie, that the sorority would reach college women in all parts of the country who were sorority-minded and desired to follow the founding principles of the organization. As so famously stated by the Most Honorable Triumphant Founder Viola Tyler, “There is a Zeta in every girl regardless of race, creed or color, who has high standards and principles, a good scholarly average and an active interest in all things that she undertakes to accomplish.”

As an organization who has achieved many firsts, such as the first to be constitutionally bound to a fraternity Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, the first sorority to charter chapters in Africa, the first sorority to form adult and youth auxiliary groups, and much more; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority continues to live out its commitment to uplift their community by exemplifying the goals set forth by their Founders.
